Liverpool earned their first English Premier League (EPL) victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in seven years with a come-from-behind 4-2 win on Thursday night.

Goals from Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino (brace) and Mohamed Salah secured a win that boosted the visitors’ chances of claiming a top four spot while Man United look forward to their Europa League final.

Bruno Fernandes’ deflected strike gave the hosts an early lead but Liverpool responded following a corner kick scramble that ended with Jota’s flicked effort finding the net to restore parity.

Jurgen Klopp had his boys back in the lead a few minutes to half-time through Firmino’s header.

The Brazilian striker made it 3-1 two minutes after the restart, capitalising on an error by Dean Henderson, United’s goalkeeper, who spilled Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross for Firmino to tap into an empty net.

While Marcus Rasford reduced the deficit, Salah sealed the win on the counter as Man United searched for the equaliser towards the end of the match.

With the win, Liverpool rise up to fifth on the EPL table with 60 points, four behind fourth-placed Chelsea who have played a game more.

Man United, however, remain second on 70 points and safe from the top-four scramble with two matches left to the end of the league season.

The Red Devils will play Villarreal in the Europa League final on May 26.
