Liverpool have reportedly agreed a British record transfer fee of £111 million with Brighton for their Colombian midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea had been considered the frontrunners for Caicedo, as the Blues continue their hunt for midfield reinforcements.

The player also previously told the club he wanted to join Chelsea.

Brighton had set a fee in excess of £100 million for Caicedo and a deadline for midnight on Thursday for bids to come in.

The Blues eventually bid £100 million for the Ecuador international, but were outdone by the Reds, who tabled an extra £10 million.

According to Skysports, Caicedo is now free to go for a medical in Liverpool on Friday with all the formalities of a transfer now in motion.

Jurgen Klopp’s side is seeking midfield reinforcements following the exits of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

Chelsea also need to strengthen in midfield after losing Mason Mount, N’Golo Kanté, Jorginho, Ruben Lofus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic this year.

Chelsea host Liverpool on Sunday.

Brighton signed Caicedo for £4.5 million from Independente Delle Valle in 2021.
