The Labour Party (LP) has called on its supporters in Enugu to vote for Chijioke Edeoga, the governorship candidate in the state.

TheCable had recently reported that all the top contenders in the state’s governorship election have publicly incorporated the movement of Peter Obi, LP presidential candidate, into their campaigns.

Julius Abure, national chairman of the LP, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said Edeoga remains the governorship candidate and choice of the party in Enugu.

He said the party LP has not aligned with any candidate from another party in the state.

He said some struggling candidates are trying to demarket the LP candidate instead of selling themselves to the public.

“The attention of the Party has been drawn to some attempts by some struggling governorship candidates to tap into the anointing of the Obidients/Labour Party Candidate Hon.Barr, Chijioke Edeoga by trying to demarket our Candidate instead of selling themselves,” the statement reads.

“For the umpteenth time, we want to reiterate that in Enugu State, the Obidients do not have any partnership with anybody or party and directs all our Enugu State Obidients and teeming party supporters to disregard any statements or moves by candidates of other political parties to harvest where they did not sow.

“Our Candidate is Hon. Barr. Chijoke Edeoga. Vote for him and all Labour Party Candidates for the House of Assembly Massively.”

The opposition party said its mantra for Saturday’s election is “vote LP from top to bottom”.

The party urged its supporters to reclaim Enugu state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has controlled the state since the return to democracy in 1999.
