A faction of the Labour Party (LP) has passed a vote of confidence in Nenadi Usman’s leadership as interim national chairperson of the party.
In a statement signed by Ken Asogwa, senior special adviser on media to the interim chairperson, the faction said the resolution was adopted at an expanded virtual meeting of key party stakeholders held on August 7.
The LP faction said the meeting resolved to deepen its commitment to initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions and sustain the tenets of democracy in Nigeria.
“The meeting unanimously commended the interim leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman and passed a resounding vote of confidence in her stewardship as interim national chairman,” the statement reads.

“In light of recent developments within the political landscape—particularly as they concern the Labour Party—the meeting resolved to deepen its commitment to initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions and sustain the tenets of democracy in Nigeria.
“Those present at the meeting included Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the LP; Alex Otti, governor of Abia; Darlington Nwokocha, interim national secretary; and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, 2023 governorship candidate in Lagos.
“Mohammed Usman Misau, deputy national chairman; Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, deputy national chairman; deputy governor of Abia State, HE Ikechukwu Emetu; Senator Victor Umeh; Senator Okey Ezea; Mrs. Maria Labeke, former acting national chairman of the Labour Party.

“Rotimi Odunaike, interim chairman of the Labour Party in Lagos State; former president of the NBA, Mr. Olumide Akpata; BOT member, PA Lawson Osagie; representatives of the NLC and TUC; and several other critical stakeholders of the party.
“The party restated its commitment to internal cohesion, democratic consolidation, and national development.”
