Romelu Lukaku scored the opening goal as Chelsea earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The £97 million striker, making his second debut, ran the defence ragged as the Blues maintained their 100% start to the season.

It is Chelsea’s first win over Arsenal in four games after three consecutive defeats.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could only make the bench after recovering from COVID-19, while Bukayo Saka started his first game of the season. Both Ben White and Christian Pulisic missed the game due to COVID-19.

The Champions League winners dominated early exchanges and duly scored on 15 minutes, with Lukaku scoring a simple tap-in from Reece James’ pull back after bullying Pablo Funes Mari to get into the box.

James added the second goal 20 minutes later with a composed finish into the roof of the net following excellent linkup play by Mason Mount and Kai Havertz.

Arsenal started the second half with more intensity and had two feeble shots through Aubameyang, who came on as a substitute, but it was Chelsea that almost increased the lead through Lukaku.

The 28-year-old Belgian striker’s header was brilliantly turned onto the post by Bernard Leno, the Arsenal goalkeeper.

Thomas Tuchel’s side could have scored more but they comfortably closed out the encounter to go top of the table on goals difference.
