Resident doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) have kicked against the suspension one Olusola Adeyelu, a doctor in the hospital.

The management of the hospital suspended Adeyelu after levelling some allegations against him.

He was accused of forgery and barred from writing his final fellowship examinations.

But the doctors described the action of the management as illegal, insiting that Adeyelu is being witch-hunted.

In a statement jointly signed by the president and secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), LUTH chapter, the doctors called on the hospital management to lift the suspension.

“This is to bring the attention of the public to the travails of one of our members who was recently suspended illegally by the management of the LUTH and who was also recently stopped from writing his final fellowship examinations,” the statement read.

“It is worthy of note that before this obnoxious and vindictive action taken by the LUTH management, they had also written a petition against Dr Olusola Adeyelu in November 2016.

“They made allegations of forgery against him and this was the basis for the discontinuation of his part 2 fellowship of the national postgraduate medical college of Nigeria.”

The association said Adeyelu was singled out because of his active participation in union activities.

“Indeed, no voice in LUTH ARD has been as clear or as resonant as that of Dr. Olusola Adeyelu. As a result of this and his active participation in industrial actions of the association, Dr Adeyelu has been the target of persistent persecution by the LUTH management.

“On the 8th February, 2017, LUTH management finally threw caution to the winds and suspended Dr Olusola Adeyelu on a frivolous charge.

“The LUTH management claimed the signature on Dr Adeyelu’s application form for the examination was unknown to them. However, the same signature appeared on the forms of four other candidates from the department of medicine in LUTH.

“Surprisingly, these other four LUTH candidates were not stopped from writing the fellowship examination. It is apparent from the foregoing that, Dr Adeyelu was the victim of an unfair, vindictive and retrogressive act of witch-hunt by the LUTH management because of his active participation in union activities.

“Despite the unfortunate event of November, 2016, Dr Adeyelu has another opportunity to write the fellowship examination. However, we have received information on the renewed efforts on the part of his distractors to prevent him, yet again, from writing the examination.

“It is noteworthy that the National Postgraduate Medical College (NPMC) has constituted an investigative panel to look into the matter of eligibility of Dr Adeyelu Olusola to sit for the examination  and determine his case.

“We hereby use this medium to call on this panel to act righteously and in conformity with the extant law with which it was instituted as an independent examination body for medical practitioners and allow Dr Adeyelu to write his examination.

“We also implore them to discountenance the vindictive tendencies of those who are hell bent on ruining the career of a promising individual.”
