Maduka Okoye completes Sparta Rotterdam move

Maduka Okoye, Super Eagles goalkeeper, has signed a two-year deal with Sparta Rotterdam, a Dutch Eredivisie side.

The Dutch side, in a statement on their official website on Monday, said Okoye, who is expected to undergo medicals before his presentation to the media, has a two years option of extension to his contract.

“With Maduka we bring in a great talent, who has a lot of potential,” Henk van Stee, the club’s coach, said on the club website.

“He was in the interest of several clubs from different countries, but he believes he can take the next step at Sparta. We believe he can be of value to this club and are happy that he signed here.”

Okoye, who holds both a German and Nigerian passport, made his debut for the Eagles in an international friendly against Brazil on October 13, 2019.

He came on for injured Francis Uzoho in the game and was able to keep a clean sheet against the star-studded Selecao of Brazil.

The twenty-year-old goalkeeper joined Rotterdam from Fortuna Düsseldorf as a free agent after the expiration of his contract with the German Bundesliga side.
