The Nigerian Twittersphere is currently buzzing over the resignation of Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra and presidential hopeful, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The presidential hopeful’s decision to leave the PDP comes days before the party’s presidential primary is scheduled to hold.

His resignation has since generated reactions from Nigerians on Twitter, making him among trending topics on the platform.

Reno Omokri, a media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, blamed Obi’s online followers for the former governor’s decision to leave PDP.

“Did I not say it? If PDP had fielded @PeterObi, they would have LOST big time. His online followers made him too toxic in every region except the Southeast. They know themselves. Insulting and threatening. As if only their votes could have made him President!” Omokri wrote.

He also advised Obi’s followers to change their campaign tactics if he moves to a new party.

“Word of advice to @PeterObi’s supporters: When and if he moves to a new party, change your tactics. Don’t carry that your IPOB insult and threaten strategy to his new party, otherwise you will make him toxic there, just as you made him too toxic for the PDP! #TableShaker,” Omokri said.

Below are more reactions.
