Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, says one of the two COVID-19 patients, who absconded before being admitted to the state’s isolation facility, has been found.

Earlier on Wednesday, the governor had announced that two COVID-19 patients had absconded.

However, in a statement issued on Wednesday night, Makinde added that the other case, a 10-year-old male, is still missing, but Sokoto state has been alerted to be on the lookout for him, as witnesses claimed the boy left the state on a bus heading to the north.

He also announced the discharge of two patients.

“Two confirmed COVID-19 patients were discharged from the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC), Olodo after receiving their second negative test results. This brings the number of discharged cases in Oyo State to thirteen,” he wrote.

“We also have a further update on the two absconded cases reported earlier today. They absconded before being admitted to any of our isolation centres.

“After intensive contact tracing, one of them has been found and admitted to the IDC, Olodo. The other is a 10-year-old boy who eye witnesses claim boarded a north-bound vehicle. His details have been sent to the Sokoto State PHEOC.”

He added that efforts are ongoing to trace contacts of the confirmed patients.

The governor also urged residents to call the emergency operations centre if they come across travellers from other states arriving in their communities.
