Ali: Maku will keep failing until he returns to PDP

Ahmadu Ali, director-general of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign organisation and former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described Labaran Maku, the immediate past minister of information, as a failure.

Ali said this on Tuesday during his speech at the presidential campaign rally of the PDP in Lafia, Nassarawa state.

Maku had defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after losing the party’s gubernatorial ticket to Yusuf Agabi.

Describing him as a “prodigal son”, Ali who spoke with so much fury, said unless Maku retraces his steps, he would live to regret his action.

“He is a failure and would keep failing for the rest of his life, unless he re-traces his steps back to the elders like us and we would forgive him as a prodigal son,” Ali said.

Also speaking at the occasion, David Mark, the senate president, accused Maku of attempting to deceive the people of the state of having the backing of Jonathan in his new party.

“Do not listen to lies from one of your sons who said he is in another party because Mr. President has put him there; that is absolute lie; you must never believe it. We said so few days ago and we are emphasising it again,” Mark said.

“We want to emphasise it, Mr. President is body and soul PDP; he can therefore not put anybody in another political party to be campaigning on behalf of another political party.

“How can you be in APGA and be campaigning for the PDP presidential candidate. Return to PDP with apology, because, before we even take him, he has to apologise to all the good people in PDP.”

Jonathan also debunked the position that he was supporting Maku’s ambition.

“How can I be anti-party? I cannot be in PDP and be supporting another candidate,” Jonathan said.
