Malala to study in ‘world’s best university’

Malala Yousafzai, Nobel laureate and celebrated girls’ rights activist, has won a place to study politics, philosophy, and economics at Oxford University, England.

Malala who announced the news via her Twitter handle said she is very excited to go to Oxford.

Oxford University is the world’s best university, according to  Times Higher Education 2016-2017 World University Rankings.

The 20-year-old Pakistani recently asked Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to declare a state of emergency on the education sector when she visited Nigeria in July.

She also said Nigeria “has the highest number of out-of-school girls in the world”. This claim was also tweeted by the Malala Fund, her educational charity.

“I highlighted the need to scale up education, that the government should declare a state of emergency in education because education of girls and boys in Nigeria is important,” she had said.

“I urged him, the minister of education and other leaders to triple spending on education, make budgets transparent and encourage all states in Nigeria to pass the Child’s Rights Act.”

On October 9, 2012, Malala was shot by a Taliban gunman after advocating for girls to have access to education.
