Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, says he has been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) over the recent attack on his convoy in Kebbi state.

In a statement he shared on Facebook on Monday, Malami said, “I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to support investigation over attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025.”

“The petition is apparently triggered by opposition high profile political elements as in the state.

“I must commend the DSS for the professional and transparent manner in which they have conducted their inquiry. I was treated with dignity and respect, and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully.”

On September 1, Malami’s convoy came under attack by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi state.

The incident occurred shortly after the former minister returned to Kebbi on a condolence visit to some families in the state capital.

About 10 vehicles in the convoy were damaged, while some of his supporters were reportedly injured during the attack.

On September 10, Malami petitioned the national security adviser (NSA), the inspector-general of police (IGP), the director-general of the DSS, and the comptroller-generals of immigration and civil defence corps over an alleged plot to destabilise Kebbi state through the importation of political thugs.

The former AGF alleged that some politicians were working with foreign mercenaries from the Niger Republic to destabilise Kebbi.

He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of complicity in the attack and asked security agencies to prevent the influx of mercenaries and arms into the state.

Malami, who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the APC, alleged that loyalists of Nasir Idris, governor of Kebbi, were behind the attack.
