A Malawian minister has killed himself after losing his seat in Tuesday’s election, police say.

Outgoing deputy Local Government Minister Godfrey Kamanya shot himself in his home, according to police.

Official results have not yet been declared in what was expected to be a tight presidential race.

The chief election officer has said the electronic counting system has broken down and officials are using fax and email, the AFP news agency reports.
