Man arraigned for ‘destroying handcuff, fleeing police custody’ in Cross River

The Cross River police command says it has arraigned 33-year-old Obi Amba-Ojong for alleged destruction of a handcuff and escape from police custody.

The suspect was arraigned on Wednesday before a magistrates’ court in Calabar, the state capital, on a two-count charge.

Solomon Awerikure, the prosecutor, told the court that Amba-Ojong committed the offence on May 9 at Adijinkpor junction in the Ikom area of the state.

Awerikure said the defendant escaped from a lawful custody and wilfully damaged a police handcuff.
