Manchester City have signed Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in what appeared to be the biggest deal in British football history.

The English Premier League (EPL) champions announced the signing of the England international on its website on Thursday.

According to Sky Sports, the transfer is worth £100 million. The fee surpasses the £89 million Manchester United paid to re-sign midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.

The 25-year-old signed a six-year deal and was handed the number 10 jersey, which was recently vacated by the departed Sergio Aguero.

“I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City, City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club,” Grealish said.

“Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe.

“To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want. “he facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing.”

The transfer makes Grealish the most expensive British signing.

Grealish joined Aston Villa as a six-year-old and had his breakthrough in the 2014/15 season. He played 213 times over eight seasons, scoring 32 goals with 43 assists.
