A yet to be identified middle-aged man has been rescued from the lagoon after he allegedly jumped into the water from the third mainland bridge on Tuesday.

According to Channels Television, the man was rescued by some fisherman and officials of the State Waterways Authority (LASWA).

The incident attracted a crowd of passers-by who stopped on the bridge to catch a glimpse of the man.

He allegedly resorted to the action in an apparent suicide attempt. The man has reportedly been taken to the hospital.

Last year, Alwell Orji, a medical doctor, ended his life by plunging into the lagoon.

In June, there were unconfirmed stories of a woman in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) who allegedly jumped off the bridge into the water.
