A woman and her one-year-old baby were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Jibia local government area of Katsina state on Sunday.
Gambo Isah, spokesman of the state police command, who confirmed the incident, said one person was killed during the attack while another was also abducted.
He identified the deceased as Ibrahim Usman, 20, and the other abducted person as Abu Abu.
According to Isah, the masked men, numbering up to 10, invaded the town around 8pm on motorcycles and headed for the residence of one Tasiu Waliyi.
He said they began to shoot sporadically, adding that Usman was killed in the process while Waliyi’s wife and child were taken into the forest.
The assailants, who were also said to have collected mobile phones of people in the area, reportedly carted away undisclosed amount of money and other valuables in the house.
Sharan Daji, police spokesman in the state, said the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is currently combing the forest with a view to rescuing the victims.
