The Lagos state Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) says a man identified as Ife Adekoye has been remanded in prison for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter.

Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, executive secretary of DSVA, in a statement, said the suspect committed the crime at Imota in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Vivour-Adeniyi said the mother of the victim told the agency she was informed by a neighbour that her daughter was raped when after returning from a trip on June 16.

The mother said she left the victim under the care of her father-in-law.

The executive secretary of DSVA said the case was reported at the Imota family support unit police station for investigation.

She added that the matter was transferred to the gender desk department of the Lagos state police command.

“The mother also alleged that a neighbour alerted her of the incident after engaging the survivor and noticing the suspicious act of the perpetrator, who was spotted with blood stains on his trousers,” the statement reads.

“Further questioning by the neighbour revealed that the alleged perpetrator lured the survivor into the bush, closed her mouth, and proceeded to sexually assault her by penetration.

“The matter was charged to court 2, and the perpetrator was arraigned before Magistrate Mope Layinka on the 26th of July 2023.

“He has since been remanded at Kirikiri maximum prison, pending DPP’s advice, and the matter has been adjourned to September 19, 2023.”

She said abuse and all forms of domestic and sexual violence are offences that are against the law, adding that perpetrators would be made to face the law.
