The Kwara high court in Ilorin, the state capital, has sentenced Abdulrahman Bello to death by hanging for killing Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education.

Hannah Ajayi, the trial judge, on Thursday, convicted Bello for the murder of Lawal.

In February 2025, Bello was arrested by the operatives of the Kwara police command for killing the final-year student at his residence in Olunlade area of Ilorin.

The defendant was said to have lured Lawal to his residence through Facebook before dismembering her body.

The police recovered two human palms and other body parts, a container of human blood, an axe, a cutlass, a table, a wooden box of black soap, and a sack of charms from Bello’s residence. The exhibits were presented in court.

Bello had told the court that he killed Lawal because he needed human hands for money rituals, adding that if only he had known another way to source the needed parts, he would not have killed her.

In her judgement on Thursday, Ajayi ruled that the evidence proved that Bello killed the final-year student for money rituals.
