Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho gave Manchester City the three points against Chelsea and put them back on top of the Barclays Premier League after two matches.

City could have killed the game off in the opening half hour were it not for heroics of their second-choice keeper Asmir Begovic, starting in place of suspended Thibaut Courtois.

But they didn’t wait too long in front of a record 54,331 attendance at the Etihad Stadium as Aguero opened the scoring with a sublime effort on 31 minutes. Captain Kompany doubled City’s lead with a header in the second half.

In a match that the home side thoroughly dominated, Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho secured all three points with an excellent drive from 20 yards.

Arsenal claimed their first points of the new season courtesy of a 2-1 victory over London rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock but Joel Ward drilled home an equaliser before the half-hour mark.

The winning goal arrived 10 minutes into the second half as Damien Delaney turned an Alexis Sanchez header into his own net when attempting to clear the ball.
