Two people lost their lives following a gas explosion along Jos road, Lafia, Nasarawa state capital, on Monday.
The tragic incident happened around 10am. Workers were said to be offloading gas at Natson filling station when it exploded.
The incident was attributed to gas leakage. Vehicles, shops and offices were destroyed in the inferno.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) and fire service evacuated victims from the scene of the incident.
The injured are said to be receiving treatment at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, while the number of casualties is yet to be known.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered the evacuation of all affected persons to the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, for treatment as the facilities at Dalhatu Araf were not enough to accommodate them.
Some of the victims were taken to National Hospital, Abuja.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, who was in the state for his presidential campaign, visited victims of the explosion.
He said it is rather unfortunate that the country is losing people who can add value to its development.
“I want to stress hear that there is no amount of politics that should undermine the lives of fellow Nigerians,” he said.
