Benue has continued to record attacks by gunmen. In March 2023, it was reported that no fewer than 50 persons were allegedly killed by suspected herders who invaded communities in Kwande LGA of the state.

In February, some gunmen were also said to have attacked the Ikobi community in Apa LGA, killing three persons.

On one of the occasions, TheCable reported that three kinsmen of Samuel Ortom, the state governor, were killed by the gunmen.
