Kabir Marafa, senator representing Zamfara central, says Abdulrahman Dambazau, minister of interior, has vindicated him on the “failure” of Abdulaziz Yari, governor, to stop banditry in the state.

The minister had said it is bad governance for Yari to withdraw as the state’s chief security officer (CSO).

In a statement on Friday, Marafa said Yari turned him into an enemy because he advised him on issues on the state.

“Zamfara state is our only state we must therefore put all hands on deck to make it work,” he said.

“Like the federal government, I have faulted the governor’s half-hearted approach to the problem of banditry that had grounded almost all activities in the state.”

The lawmaker said the first step to ending banditry in the state was for the governor to show courage by bringing those around him who have been accused of having a hand in the “business” to book.

Marafa advised Yari to discard his second responsibility as chairman of the governors forum and focus on protecting lives and property of Zamfara people.

“He should discard the secondary responsibility of governors forum chair and concentrate on his primary responsibility of providing security  of lives and property of the people of the state,” the senator said.

“If he remains an absentee governor, there is no how he can tackle the menace of banditry in the state. It is only when he is on ground that other things can take shape for the good of the state.”
