Marco Silva, Alex Iwobi’s manager at Everton, has been sacked by the Merseyside club, after the English football side fell into the relegation zone.

Silva was sacked on the back of Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat to Liverpool, which leaves the club in 18th position on the log.

It was Everton’s most dreadful record at Anfield — 20 years and still counting without a league win.

The Spanish gaffer, who was appointed coach on May 2018, finished 8th on the English Premier League table last season.

With the kick-off of the 2019/20 season, the expectations of the club were high and that led to the splurging of cash for the acquisition of Iwobi, Moise Kean, Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

As the horrendous start to the campaign continued at Anfield, it became a no brainer to let Silva go.

So far, Everton have won just a game out of six and have taken 14 points from 15 EPL games.

A club statement confirmed Silva’s sacking on Thursday night.

“Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the Club,” the statement said.

“Majority Shareholder Farhad Moshiri, Chairman Bill Kenwright and the Board of Directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.

“Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for the game against Chelsea on Saturday.

“The Club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.”
