Market leader shot dead in Benue

Tavershima Achinge, chairman of  Zaki Biam yam market association in Ukum local government of Benue state, has been killed.

Catherine Anene, public relations officer of the police in the state, disclosed this in Makurdi, the state capital, on Tuesday.

She said Achinge was shot dead on Monday evening, adding that the incident was reported on Tuesday through the Ukum divisional police station.

The entire Sankera axis, comprising Ukum, Logo and Katsina-Ala local government areas of the state, have witnessed unprecedented killings and criminality in the last four years.

In 2017, scores of people, including traders in Zaki Biam, were killed by unidentified gunmen.

Reacting to an attack on traders at a market in the state in 2017,  saying it appeared Nigerians had lost value for human life.

The market is said to be considered by many as the biggest place where yam is sold in Nigeria.
