Matthew Ajibero, former Kogi poly rector, to be buried Sept 25

Matthew Idowu Ajibero, a former rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, will be buried on September 25.

Ajibero died on August 25, 2021, at the age of 71.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the family announced that the funeral activities would hold from September 21 to 25.

Ajibero served as rector of Kogi State Polytechnic from 2006 to 2014, and subsequently as special adviser on higher education to the Kogi state government.

He was a one-time professor of library and information science at Bayero University, Kano. He also served as the university librarian and pioneer head of the department of library science at the University of Ilorin.

He was a member of several professional bodies, a recipient of numerous awards from academic, professional and community groups.

Until his death, he was also a prominent personality in the Catholic Church where he was the metropolitan grand knight, Ibadan metropolitan council, and chairman of the forum of metropolitan grand knights.

A commendation mass would be held in his honour on September 21 at the University of Ilorin (main campus) followed by a procession service in Kabba on September 22.

The Christian wake holds on September 24 at his Kabba GRA residence, the funeral mass is on September 25 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church (SHJ), and the reception is at the Kabba Township Stadium.
