African Newspapers Nigeria PLC, publishers of Nigerian Tribune titles, on Tuesday in Lagos honoured the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jr., with “Outstanding and Most Innovative Entrepreneur” award.

The event which was held at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, was the Platinum Awards of Nigerian Tribune newspapers which was organized as part of the activities marking the 70th anniversary of the company.

The organisers said Dr. Adenuga was honoured for his “patriotism which resulted in the crashing of call rates in the country. Before the advent of Globacom, the nation was told that per second billing was not possible. But Globacom under Adenuga introduced per second billing and forced others to join. His intervention in the industry has led to the democratization of access to ICT with even people of low earnings being able to afford mobile phones.”

“Today, beneficiaries of his per second billing system are in every home, every village, town and city across the country. With unending innovation, Globacom has contributed immensely to the improvement of internet service provision in the country. Apart from being an astute businessman, Dr. Adenuga is a philanthropist of note and has brought relief to the underprivileged in the society through his generosity.”  Tribune added.

Receiving the award on Dr. Adenuga’s behalf, National Commercial Coordinator, Globacom, Mr. Yomi Ogunbamowo paid glowing tribute to African Newspapers for honouring the Globacom Chairman. He assured the organisers that Dr. Adenuga would continue to be of service to humanity.

Also in attendance was Globacom’s Executive Director, Special Projects, Mr. Mike Jituboh.

Dr. Adenuga holds Nigeria’s highest honour for non-government officials, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Nigeria (GCON) and has outstanding business accomplishments in different sectors of the economy, including telecommunications, banking, oil and gas, real estate and construction amongst others.
