Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, has turned down his appointment as director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign in Kogi state.

Musa Wada, a younger brother of the immediate past governor of the state, clinched the PDP ticket, and will face Yahaya Bello, incumbent governor, who is candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16 governorship election.

Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman, had announced that the party appointed Melaye to lead its campaign to displace the APC government in Kogi.

But on Friday, Melaye who participated in the PDP governorship primary but came a distant fourth with just 70 votes, said he was not interested in the appointment.

“Let me state categorically that I have turned down the position of Director-General of the PDP Kogi State Governorship Campaign Council,” he wrote.

“I wish PDP all the best. When truth is a casualty there is chaos.”

After losing the PDP gubernatorial ticket, the senator dismissed the primary as “ridiculous”, saying the outcome is “totally” unacceptable.

“It is ridiculous to declare a final result of PDP Governorship primary election in Kogi State when my votes sorted out yesterday in 8 out of 10 ballot boxes are missing,” he had said.

“Only to declare votes in 2 out of 10 ballot boxes as my votes. Totally unacceptable.”
