Meningitis vaccination commences in Zamfara

Reactive vaccination for meningitis C commenced in Zamfara on Wednesday as the federal and state governments battle to quell the outbreak of the disease.

Zamfara has been the worst hit in the current outbreak of the disease.

So far, 336 people have died while 2,997 cases have been recorded in 16 states and 92 local governments of the country.

According to who the Nigerian Centre for the Disease Control, children and adolescents are the worst hit in this meningitis outbreak.

Abdulaziz Yari, governor of Zamfara, has been in the news ever since he claimed that God sent meningitis to punish Nigerians for their sins.
