Mothers and grandmothers, some of whom have lived in the UK for decades, are among those facing deportation to Nigeria and Ghana on June 29.

According to a survey by The Guardian (UK), an unusual large number of women are among those facing displacement to West African countries.

Human rights campaigners have decried this move by the UK, saying there is a range of safety concerns regarding those due to be deported, including religious persecution, modern slavery, rights to family life, and persecution because of sexual orientation.

This is not the first deportation exercise by the UK as the British government previously won legal backing for its plan to deport hundreds of international asylum seekers from its territory to Rwanda.

Many of the women facing displacement are said to suffer from severe mental health problems and are on anti-psychotic medication.
