Meta has launched an app for its artificial intelligence (AI), designed to offer more personalised voice interactions for users.

The tech giant announced the launch in a blog post on Tuesday, saying that the AI runs on Meta’s proprietary Llama model.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive officer (CEO), described the app as a “personal AI”, built around voice interaction and designed to evolve with the user.

Zuckerberg said it features a social feed where users can explore how others are creatively interacting with Meta AI.

He added that the app will initially offer limited personalisation but is expected to grow more intuitive as it taps into data from Meta’s suite of services.

“Meta AI is designed to be your personal AI. That means, first, it is designed around voice conversations, you open the app, and you can talk to it about whatever you want: from the news, to an issue you’re dealing with, to just anything you want to learn about,” Zuckerberg said.

“It is also designed to be personalised. We’re starting off really basic, with just a little bit of context about your interests, but over time.

“We also designed the social feed so you can discover all kinds of different ways that people are creating stuff with Meta AI.

“And also, you’re going to be able to use the app to manage your Meta glasses and all kinds of AI devices that we are going to be building in the future”.

Meta first introduced its AI assistant in September 2023 and took things a step further in April 2024 by weaving its AI into the search features of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

The company’s latest standalone AI offering brings it into the fold of platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini.
