At least over 100 suspected members of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) were reportedly killed in airstrikes by the air component of the north-east joint task operation Hadin Kai in Borno state on Friday.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication that focuses on the Lake Chad region, the airstrikes were conducted when the terrorists were meeting in the forest at Bukar Mairam in Marte LGA of Borno.

Zagazola said the airstrikes followed surveillance that detected a large gathering of terrorists at the enclave.

“The ISR platform sighted a massive movement of the insurgents moving toward a location suspected to be a meeting point of the terrorists,” the publication quoted a military source as saying.

“The strikes were successful, scoring devastating hits in the terrorists’ position.

“The terrorists converged in the area to plan night attacks against our troops’ locations.”

Last week, airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) killed over 100 bandits in Kebbi state.
