The Eko Peace and Civil Rights Movement (RKO) has commended the Nigerian military over its efforts in the fight against insurgency and kidnapping in the country.

Ayokunle Adumashin, national president of the group, made the commendation during a rally on Thursday.

“We have converged here from our various locations based on our belief that Nigeria must work for the citizenry and identification of the security of the people to embark on this rally today as a statement of hope and encouragement to those whose primary responsibility is to dare the odds to keep us safe in our various homes, offices and even relaxation joints like clubs, cinemas, stadium,” Adumashin said.

“The Eko Peace and Civil Rights Movement like you all know is an almagamation of about 20 civil rights and peace based organisations that came together in response to the security situation of our country and the need to protect Lagos as the economic hub of the country from the activities of terrorists.

“You may recall that the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja prior to 2015 was partially taken over Boko Haram terrorists who started their operations in the north-east and were spreading fast to the South-West after installing its command and control Centre in Okene, Kogi State for the upward movement. This invariably raised the question as to when Lagos will fall into their trap.

“These things didn’t just happen overnight as it took the decisive efforts of the Nigerian security architecture to analyze and arrest the threats in the North East which invariably distorted the chain of operation of Boko Haram and their collaborators who were waiting for the worst to befall our country.

“To this end, we make bold to salute the direct intervention of the Nigerian military as Guardian of our democracy to intervene where necessary to safeguard the country from the hands of these wicked elements that do not mean well for our country.”
