Soldiers ‘kill’ 50 Boko Haram militants

The Nigerian military says its troops have killed more than 50 members of Boko Haram and confiscated some of the ammunition that the insurgents have been using to unleash terror across the northeast.

The insurgents were reportedly planning to attack a village before meeting their waterloo.

“Over Fifty terrorists died yesterday afternoon as troops raided their hideout in Kawuri before setting out on a planned attack on Konduga,” the defence headquarters said in a statement on Sunday

“One Fabricated Artillery Gun, two Anti – Aircraft gun, an armoured vehicle and assorted types of ammunition were captured in the process.

“Some hardware, weapons, food items and personal belongings were also destroyed in the raid.”

The statement added that three security personnel sustained serious injuries in the operation.

Boko Haram has recently intensified its attacks in a bid to take over parts of the northeast, but the military continues to maintain that it is in control of the situation.

On Friday while addressing officers of the 13 Brigade Nigerian army in Calabar, chief of army staff, Lietenant-General Kenneth Minimah expressed confidence that the army would defeat terrorism and insurgency in the country.
