Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff (CDS), says the military is reassessing its operational strategies to tackle rising insecurity in Plateau and other areas covered by Operation Safe Haven.
Tukur Gusau, defence director of information, said Musa spoke on Friday during a visit to the operation’s headquarters in Jos, the Plateau capital.
The CDS said the military is adapting its tactics to match the asymmetric nature of the conflict in the region, while also calling on local leaders to discourage youths from shielding criminal elements in their communities.
“We must take decisive actions to halt the cycle of violence affecting Plateau and neighbouring states,” the statement reads.

He added that military commanders would be held accountable for negligence and promised improved logistical support for troops.
Eyitayo Oyinlola, commander of Operation Safe Haven and general officer commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, highlighted the operation’s recent gains and efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
He said the command is building a robust intelligence network to better protect vulnerable communities and will sustain ongoing peace efforts.

The CDS also visited the Nigerian Army Medical Centre in Tigi and Sector 6 in Jebbu Bindi, Riyom LGA, where he pledged support to improve medical services for frontline soldiers and residents.
Musa’s visit comes in the wake of a recent attack near Chirang village in Bokkos LGA, where suspected bandits killed 14 people.
