Minister says Bayelsa is a stronghold of APC

Heineken Lokpobiri, minister of state for agriculture, says Bayelsa state is a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

George Oji, media aide of Lokpobiri, quoted the minister as saying this while assuring President Muhammadu Buhari that the Bayelsa people are committed to delivering the state to him at the polls.

The minister also refuted reports that 3,000 APC members in the state have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The Ekeremor community and indeed the entire Bayelsa State remains a  very stronghold of APC and nothing has happened in the recent times to change this position,” he said.

“It is the position of the minister that notwithstanding the activities of some of the misguided politicians in the state, the people of Bayelsa State are committed and looking forward to delivering the state to President Muhammadu Buhari come February 16.

“The attention of the honourable minister of state, federal ministry of agriculture and rural development, senator Heineken Lokpobiri Ph.D has been drawn to an online news report, which falsely claimed that, ‘Lokpobiri Leads 3000 Defectors to PDP in Bayelsa, as Dickson Rides in a Convoy of Cars to Ekeremor after 40 Years.’

“The minister wishes to clearly distant and dissociate himself from the alleged report and to state that he remains a very strong and committed member of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

“It is important to state that the said Lokpobiri does not have any direct link with the honourable minister and is not a member of APC and as such not the ward chairman of the party as the authors of the report laboured to portray. Of the truth, the undisputed ward chairman of the party in Ekeremor is Mr. Columbus Japan, who remains a very committed and unrepentant member of our party.”

The minister added that APC members were looking forward to hosting the  campaign team of Buhari.
