‘Minor injury’ stalls Brown Ideye’s Super Eagles return
Brown Ideye’s return to international duty with the Super Eagles suffered a setback with a “minor injury” forcing him out of the team.
Ideye has not played for Nigeria since 2013 but was named in a 28-man squad for the team’s friendly games against Uganda and South Africa later in the month.
The in form striker, who missed West Bromwich Albion’s 3-0 loss at the Etihad to Manchester City, will be out for a week according to the team’s medical staff.
Super Eagles spokesperson, Toyin Ibitoye, also confirmed the unavailability of the 26-year-old for national assignment.
“A minor injury has forced Brown Ideye to pull out of the Super Eagles friendlies against Uganda and South Africa,” he told BBC Sport.
“It’s only a minor setback for him. We all know it would have been a good return to the international fold after a long absence.
“But his health is more important. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see Ideye when the Nations Cup qualifiers start in June.”
