ADC Vanguard, a group claiming affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been exposed for sharing an old photograph to accuse the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and All Progressives Congress (APC) of vote buying during the November 8 Anambra governorship election.
On Thursday, the group posted on its X page a photo showing a “Ghana-Must-Go” bag filled with bundles of Nigerian naira notes, alleging collusion between APGA and APC.
“Evidence of collusion everywhere. APC and APGA turned the process into a heist and pushed out the coalition. Unacceptable,” the caption reads.
However, checks by TheCable show that the image actually relates to a cash seizure by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a 2019 patrol against vote buying in Makurdi, Benue state.

The EFCC reported recovering the money in connection with Emmanuel Jime, then the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 elections.
This misuse of an old photo has led to misinformation regarding the just concluded Anambra election.
This is not the first instance in which ADC Vanguard has been implicated in spreading misinformation.

In August, Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, publicly cautioned the group against attributing fabricated statements to him.
“Dear ADC Vanguard, please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my own social media accounts where I can share my views and opinions,” el-Rufai wrote.
“I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed, not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them.
“That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith.”
