A mob has hit a warehouse in Yola, Adamawa state capital, carting away COVID-19 relief items.

The warehouse located on Kwana-Waya road on the outskirts of Yola was attacked on Sunday.

Spaghetti, groundnut oil and noodles were among some of the items looted by the mob.

In some of the videos seen, many of the looters accused the state government of allegedly hoarding these relief items.

The police in the state later dispatched a team of officers to the warehouse and they were able to disperse the mob.

The police also reportedly foiled attempts by some of the hoodlums to break into a federal government silo located in the area.

Sulaiman Muhammad, executive secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), said the looters should have waited for the authorities to share the items.

“We are yet to receive rice, there is no single bag of rice,” Daily Trust quoted Muhammad as saying.

“We wanted to receive the remaining items including rice before we distributed them but with what is happening in the country, we decided to share what is on ground immediately, we were about to commence distribution.”

A number of warehouses where COVID-19 relief materials were kept have been looted across the country.
