Terem Moffi has been drafted in as the replacement for Victor Boniface ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

On January 3, Alhassan Yusuf was named as a replacement for injured Wilfred Ndidi.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Babafemi Raji, the team’s media office, announced that the OGC Nice forward will replace Boniface.

Moffi’s non-inclusion in Jose Peseiro’s initial 25-man list means that his participation in Ivory Coast is subject to the approval of his club and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“Victor Boniface is out and Terem Moffi is in his place, pending approval of CAF and concurrence of his Club,” Raji said.

On Monday, TheCable reported that 23-year-old Boniface missed the Super Eagles friendlies against Al Gharib and Guinea due to the injury.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward, who has netted four times in five appearances for the Eagles, debuted for Nigeria in a 1-0 loss to Cameroon in 2021.

The 34th edition of the African football showpiece is slated to kick off on January 13 in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria is drawn in Group A alongside the host nation, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
