Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, says President Bola Tinubu remains focused on economic reforms and will not be swayed by political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Idris said the administration is committed to its development agenda despite heightened political activity following the unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a coalition platform by opposition leaders.

“It is important to reaffirm that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains firmly committed to delivering meaningful reforms and real economic growth,” he said.

“Even as we affirm the right of all Nigerians to freely exercise their constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of association and of speech — it is also important to underscore that President Tinubu’s administration will not be sidetracked by politicking or political distractions.”

The information minister said growing interest in the formation of a new political coalition is not surprising, but reminded Nigerians that Tinubu was elected with a clear mandate for change.

“The clamour in the media about the emergence of a new political ‘coalition’ is understandable, but Nigerians entrusted President Tinubu with a bold and transformative mandate,” the minister said.

Idris said that the president’s renewed hope agenda is already showing results across key sectors.

According to him, crude oil theft has declined, investor confidence in the energy sector is rebounding, inflation is reducing, the naira is stabilising, and security challenges are being addressed.

He added that many Nigerians are benefiting from initiatives such as student loans, consumer credit, CNG vehicle conversions, and improved infrastructure.

The minister also highlighted recent policy milestones, including the signing of four major tax reform bills into law.

“Two weeks ago, the President signed four groundbreaking tax reform bills into law, marking one of the most ambitious fiscal overhauls in Nigeria’s history,” Idris said.

“Set to be implemented from 2026, these reforms are expected to significantly boost prosperity for households and businesses nationwide.

“Just before then, the President commissioned the single largest mechanisation drive ever undertaken in Nigeria’s history—marking the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme.

“This is just one of several high-impact agricultural mechanisation programs being undertaken to guarantee food security.”

Idris said critics within emerging opposition bloc do not want Nigerians to focus on the progress being made by the Tinubu administration.
