Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, has cancelled the celebration of the 63rd Independence Day in the state.

Nigeria marks its Independence Day on October 1 every year.

In a statement by Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke’s spokesperson, the governor urged the people of Osun to pray for the peace and prosperity of the country.

The governor, while acknowledging the hard time being faced in the country, asked the people of the state to ask God for guidance.

Adeleke urged the residents to use the period to meditate and offer prayers for the continuous peace and prosperity of Nigeria

“Let us use Independence Day to meditate and pray on the state of our nation,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

“Our people are passing through tough times. It is time to take stock and seek divine intervention and guidance in the affairs of our country.
