Motorist runs over, kills secondary school student in Ondo

An over-speeding motorist on Monday, ran over a junior secondary school student, in Akure, Ondo state, killing her on the spot.

According to NAN, a witness said the student was returning from school and was standing by the roadside when tragedy struck.

“Friends of the driver, a suspected internet fraudster, who were in another vehicle, rushed him to an unknown destination as his vehicle burst into flames,” the witness said.

Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said the corpse of the student had been deposited in the morgue at the Akure specialist hospital.

In a similar incident in April, a driver was alleged to have killed two persons in an accident in Ondo.

The  35-year-old driver was said to have rammed into about five motorcycles carrying passengers along the Ijo Mimo area of Ijoka road in Akure, the state capital.

An angry mob subsequently stoned him to death.

Apart from the two persons who were killed, six others were reported to have sustained injuries during the accident.

The angry mob, after stoning the driver to death attempted to beat up his parents when they arrived at the scene but the police immediately intervened.
