Telecommunications firm MTN has introduced the ‘My First 11’ tariff plan, which would allow its consumers call their most important 11 phone lines at half-price, irrespective of network.

Funmi Onajide, MTN Nigeria’s general manager, cooperate affairs, said though the industry is moving towards digital services, people who like to talk should not be left out.

She said emphasis should not be laid on data at the expense of voice because “data is the crown prince while voice remains the king”.

“While the industry is moving to Telco 2.0, which is characterised by focus on data and digital services, we also realise the need to make it easier for people to talk on the network,” she said.

“Indeed, for us at MTN, the launch of these extensions to the MTN TruTalk plan is an attempt to demonstrate our understanding of the desires of the vast majority of customers. This is the desire to talk and talk cheaper.”

Bayo Adekanmbi, MTN’s chief marketing officer, used the football team analogy to explain the concept of ‘My First 11’.

“If the best 11 of a football team are on field by half-time, they must have won the match,” he said.

“My first 11 allows you to call your best 11 at 11 kobo per second. It is 11 to 11.”

Saidat Lawal-Mohammed, who made the presentation to unveil the new package, said there is no time limit to complete registration for the first 11 and substitute can be made at any time.
