MTN has rewarded 104 customers with N23.45 million through its mega billion promo on Saturday for committing to the network provider amid economic hardship.

The customers won the cash prizes after partaking in MTN mega billion promo, which requires subscribers to send “mega” to 900 or dial *900# to opt in, after which they are expected to earn points by recharging – with every N100 resulting in one point.

During the live show on Saturday, held at MTN Rooftop Event Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos state, 10 customers won N25,000 each, 19 subscribers have been rewarded N50,000 each, 30 people won N75,000 each, and 40 customers were given N100,000 each.

Additionally, two customers won the third-place cash prize of N1 million each, and another two won the second-place cash prize of N2 million each, while a subscriber won the mega jackpot of N10 million, bringing the total cash prize to N23.45 million.

Speaking during the show, Onyinye Emeka, MTN’s chief marketing officer (CMO), said the telecommunications company is using the promo to support customers during economic hardship.

“At MTN, our commitment to making our customers’ lives brighter is our mission, and it is very critical and central to who we are as an organisation. So consistently in our operations, in our engagements, in the way we exhibit our operations within the communities that we serve, we consistently try to ensure that we are achieving on this grand mission,” Emeka said

“As we are all aware, in the last couple of years, it’s been a very tough time for everyone of us; for the average Nigerian. It doesn’t matter how wealthy you are, or whatever customer segment or part of the market or region that you operate within, it really has been a tough time.

“As a company that is committed to making our lives brighter, we consistently look for ways to achieve this. This mega-billion promo is one of such initiatives. And what we are trying to achieve through this platform is to excite the market. To create the necessary excitement in the market, post the price-up exercise, post the issues or challenges that we are having outside of our everyday living

“So that excitement, we believe, is an opportunity for us to, first of all, reward our loyal customers. Customers who have remained committed to MTN despite all the challenges that exist and that have stayed with us through thick and thin, as we navigate the challenges of trying to stay operational and stay profitable in this market.”

‘OVER 1,500 CUSTOMERS REWARDED’

The promo, which started on June 23, will run for 90 days, with 63 winners drawn daily, while 104 winners are announced every Saturday

Emeka said over 1,500 customers have been rewarded, adding that “we’ve had three major jackpot winners – they have won N10 million each – and N25,000 winners. Also, we’ve had N100,000 winners, and in total, we’ve given out winnings of over N290 million, and still counting”.

On the impact of the reward scheme, Ugonwa Nwonye, chief customer relations and experience officer (CCREO), said the mega billion promo is an initiative that helps the company recognise the loyalty of its customers and tells them that their phone can make a difference.
