Mukhtar Yero, a former governor of Kaduna, has resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Yero, who was the governor of Kaduna from 2012 to 2015, announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter addressed to the party’s chairman of Kaura ward in the state on Saturday.

“With gratitude to Almighty Allah, I write to extend my sincere greetings and to formally inform you of my decision to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” the former governor wrote in the letter.

“In view of this, I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from 301 September 2023. Enclosed herewith, is my Party Membership card duly returned.”

Meanwhile, five days earlier, Mike Onolememen, a former minister of works, had also resigned his membership from the party.

In a letter addressed to Micheal Eromonsele, chairman of the PDP Esan north-east LGA’s ward 4, Onolememen cited protracted internal conflict as his reason for dumping the party.

Onolememen, who joined the party in 1998, did not state his next political move in the letter.

“I’m writing to formally inform you and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that I’m resigning my membership of the party with immediate effect,” the letter reads.

“After carefully analyzing the protracted conflict in the party and consulting with relevant stakeholders from my immediate constituency, political allies, friends, and family, this decision was made.

“I’d like to use this medium to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me since I joined the Party in 1998.”

Onolememen was the minister of works in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
