At least 32 people were reported killed, and 63 injured after multiple cars collided about 132 kilometres north of Cairo, Egypt’s capital.
The collision happened on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road early Saturday morning, according to Egypt’s ministry of health and population.
The accident involved a passenger bus and several cars, some of which caught fire after there was an oil leak from one of the vehicles.
Al-Ahram, state-run newspaper, quoted the ministry of social solidarity and Nasser Social Bank as saying families of the deceased will be provided with EGP 60,000 (about $1,946).
