Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau has sacked four heads of tertiary institutions, including Bernard Matau, the vice-chancellor (VC) of the Plateau State University (PLASU).
NAN reports that Samuel Jatau, the secretary to the state government (SSG), announced the sack of the heads of the state-owned tertiary institutions in a statement on Tuesday.
Matau was appointed as the VC of PLASU while serving as the commissioner for higher education in the administration of Simon Lalong, the former governor of Plateau.
Jatau disclosed that the governor also approved the dissolution of the governing board of PLASU.
Other heads of institutions affected by the removal include the rector of the Plateau State Polytechnic in Barkin Ladi, the provost at the College of Health Technology, the provost at the College of Health Technology, and the provost at the College of Education in Gindiri.
Jatau directed all affected heads to hand over government property in their possession to the next most senior officers in the institutions.
“The dissolution and removal is with immediate effect,” the statement reads.
Jatau said the state government also approved the cancellation of recruitment conducted by tertiary institutions in 2022.
He said recruitment conducted in early 2023 under suspension is also affected by this cancellation.
“Consequently, applications for an all-inclusive recruitment for all tertiary institutions would be advertised,” Jatau added.
