‘N3.1bn fraud’: Court to rule on Suswan’s no-case submission July 23

Gabriel Suswan, former governor of Benue state.

A federal high court in Abuja has fixed July 23 to deliver a ruling in the no-case submission filed by Gabriel Suswam, former governor of Benue.

In 2020, Suswam and Omadachi Okolobia, a former finance commissioner in Benue, were re-arraigned on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering.

They were both accused of diverting N3.1 billion from state coffers and were first arraigned before Ahmed Mohammed, a judge of the federal high court, in 2015.

However, the case is now before Peter Lifu, a federal high court judge.

At the proceedings on Friday, counsel to the first and second defendants, Chenelu Ogbozor and Paul Erokoro, informed the court of their application for a no-case submission filed on May 28.

The lawyers prayed the court to adopt the submission in the application and acquit their clients of the charge.

Rotimi Jacobs, the prosecution counsel, told the court he had filed a response opposing the defendants’ no-case submissions.

The counsel asked the court to dismiss the application of the defence team, adding that it has no substance and lacks merit.

Lifu adjourned till July 23 for ruling on the no-case submission.
