The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says several insurgents have been killed following an airstrike conducted by troops in Shiroro LGA, Niger state.

According to a Twitter post by the federal government on Sunday, the NAF operation was conducted over the weekend.

The air strike was said to have been carried out after intelligence revealed that Aminu Duniya, identified as a “Boko Haram terrorist commander”, called for a meeting with other insurgents.

The exercise was said to have been conducted by ground and air troops of the Nigerian Army.

“Over the weekend, NAF aircraft struck a terrorists gathering at Kurebe in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, after intelligence revealed that the terrorists had assembled for an important meeting hosted by Aminu Duniya, a Boko Haram terrorist commander,” the post reads.

‘While @HQNigerianArmy troops laid siege around the location, @NigAirForce aircraft were directed to the suspected location of the terrorists.

“Several terrorists were confirmed killed after the strike, though it remains unclear if Aminu Duniya was also neutralized.”

Meanwhile, the development comes days after NAF said 18 insurgents — including a “terrorist kingpin” — were killed in an airstrike in Kaduna.
